“NOTHING IS ART IF IT DOES NOT COME FROM NATURE.”

ANTONI GAUDI

how does a custom order work?

If you are looking for a custom size, and a specific look, a custom order will work best for you. I love doing pieces that have sentimental meaning, if you have a botanical that you would like to press, i.e. a wedding bouquet, a plant in your yard, etc., I can usually accommodate this. I will choose the size of the frame based on the type of plant we are working with and how big you want the finished product to be. You will be able to select the finish of frame that works best in your space and whether you would like the actual botanical to be natural or have a gilded finish. To begin a custom order you can email me at amyalynspencer@gmail.com or contact me directly by phone 225-505-5728. Price will be assessed on an individual basis. Custom orders usually take between 6-8 weeks.

Where did the idea come from to create art from nature?

Everyone isn’t a master gardener, but we all love the beauty of nature and the life it adds to our home.  I wanted to be able to bring the universal appeal of nature into interior spaces. Plants and flowers change the feel of a room without needing center stage.  I wanted to create art that complimented a room and filled needed space without necessarily taking center stage.

Where do you find the botanical material to use in your creations

This is a different kind of art in itself.  It requires a bit of creative scavenger hunting. It is also what provides the story behind each piece.  Whether walking the LSU lakes and finding a treasure trove of clippings from a surrounding home, or requesting to take a fresh cut from an estate sale garden, each botanical has been hand-selected.

  • Press

The first step in the process, once the botanical is collected, is to put it in our press. This custom-made press is set-up in Amy’s studio. The time in the press depends on the size and thickness of the leaves.

  • Inspiration

Once pressed, Amy is inspired to use the botanical either fully intact, or cut and arranged, sometimes in an abstract form. In addition to the arrangement, some are left natural, and some are gold leafed. Each finished design is its’ own work of art.

  • Framing

Framing is the last step in the process. Each frame is chosen to complete the design, and for custom orders, the room is also taken into consideration. Just as these botanical originals represent freshness and beauty, the framing is designed to compliment the arrangement, with simple sophistication as the goal.
